Thanks HH.

Fishbase claimed that Oloplotosus mariae max at 15cm.

http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/Species ... p?id=25566

Do you have any more info eg. pix etc.. on Oloplotosus mariae ?

Only info I have is from Gerry Allen's Field Guide to the Freshwater Fishes of New Guinea:

“It inhabits clear rocky streams in deeper pools, usually in hilly or mountainous terrain.”

Yes, a really beautiful fish and a genus I've certainly not seen before. I've been keeping for over a year now and they are superb. I must see if they are available, as it looks like it.

Ben, what price are these fish equivalent to? A 4" L25 for example or more or less?

Jools,

I was told by the importer that this fish was somehow ramdomly collected and they don't even know the ID.

Two cats were imported this time and one being the Neosilurus ater. I am totally new to this group of cat and certainly seeing them in flesh for the very first time.

I was told that they were collected in freshwater. Hence, I am housing it in the same water condition. what about your Neosilurus ater ?

a 4 inches L25 cost abt USD75 here and I paid about double for this one. but again, I guess it is all about "supply and demand" thingy.

any second opinion on the ID ?

Thanks

ben

here is another pix with lots of photoshop done to the background :D

I've got my 3 N. ater in with Rainbowfish, a single Mystus bocourti and some worker Ancistrus. They seem to like each others company at least right now. pH 6.0 otherwise fairly normal conditions. Temp 78F. They are mid water feeders and will eat everything from live earthworms and frozen bloodworm to flake, tablets and tetra prima. They are slow growing too, maybe only 2" since I got them and it was maybe 12-18 months ago.

Just while we are on the topic of youtube, as you may know we have some videos on the site and they are hosted by youtube. So if anyone has videos they'd like to have added to the catelog, send them along! However (to ensure content doesn't get out with my control, changed, lost etc) I have to upload them to my youtube account.

Neosilurus ater is basically the common North Queensland Eel Tail right?

Thanks for the info Jools,

Both of them are now taking bloodworm at the moment. I will try flake or raw shrimp later..

Worton,
I will try taking some clips later. Thanks for the idea :)

Thought I'd display it using bbcode inline here. Now you guys know why I like this genus so much, interesting to note that this fish appears to be much more of a bottom feeder than my midwater .
