recently the bagarius became available in the market here. a friend of mine is selling one at 10inches. will it be compatible with an arowana and a pleco? i'm not sure if it's a suchus or a yarelli.

Bagarius Bagarius has been kept succesfully with large peaceful fish because of it's smaller size.

With other species being very large, their natural prey is going to be other fishes, some of considerable size, & i've heard stories of well fed specimens taking chunks out of tankmates. You might find someone who has mixed them successfully with other species but i'd personally keep them in an extremely large, species only tank.

There is a chap in Birmingham who keeps one with Oxydoras niger or maybe it's a pteradoras granulosus, but if i can get someone to contact him i'll see what success/problems he's had.

thanks. i decided not to get one anymore. might be too much of a risk to house it with other fishes.

I see that Bagarius bagarius is available. Are the sizes that fishbase(200 cm) or the cat-a-log (200 mm)to be believed?

These are not the easiest of fish to keep in captivity, size being one of the factors. Some individuals have kept them where they have grown very little & it is assumed that in big tanks, fishes identified as a particular species have reached maximum size. This assumes that an id is correct & i find these hard to say for certainty which is which. In short we believe there is a small species of bagarius.

Is there any sure way in telling which is which? Because one would make a very nice cull eater that I can keep in a reasonably sized tank in my fish room. the other would require a reasonably sized swimming pool but allow me to cull the elementary schools...
