It has been sold as a "Baryancistrus sp.LDA33", but I think he looks more like a Hypancistrus.

Any ideas for a good ID?

Thanks in advance.

Hi!

Yes it looks pretty much like a young Hypancistrus, possibly H. inspector, or L102 or L4/5/28/73.
The rather typical big eye and the small mouth are sure very caracteristic of Hypancistrus
Cheers

Hi,
I think that he is not baryancistrus because his mouth is small.I think that he is a Hypancistrus sp. L004.

This is L 201 from Colombia/Venezuela. A very common fish here. I have not really looked closely at one to determine a possible genus.

Aqualog does it again!! It shows L201 as being a peckoltia from Brazil, similar to the L129 from Venezuela..

I'll never learn this stuff at this rate...

Lampy,
You are correct. Good thing I did not check Aqualog! It is a totally different fish. L 201 arrives here mixed in with batches of Panaque albomaculatus. Most local exporters think that L 201 are baby Panaque albomaculatus and so they just mix the two. If you (or anyone else) is serious about L Numbers you need Das Grosse Buch der Welse which has the original photos of L 1 through L 234 plus notes on each sp.

Failing that this sitehas access to a lot of the orignal pics and is (at least) more accurate than aqualog.
