I came in to my LFS on Saturday and some other "customers" where there handing over a big bucket of (I think) Malawi Cichlidae, but in the bucket was also a rather large S. decorus as identified by the staff. Being rather cautious regards the risk of hybrids, I went home to check the Cat-eLog, and yes, it has all the relevant signs of a genuine one (straight lines in the caudal fin, the branched barbels on upper and lower sides) - I couldn't quite see the branches on the upper barbels in the shop, but once it found a hiding place in my tank I could see clearly that all barbels are branched.

I don't know if I paid lots or not for it, as it came to £36, for a 5-6" TL fish - didn't seem excessive to me.

So far he (or she) has not been seen to eat, but I don't really expect that within the first three days....

$36L came to over $70usd....that sounds like A LOT....here wildcaught fish of the exact same size (mine were actually 7") are $39usd or $19.56pounds...

Mats - that sounds about the average for that size specimen,based on what i've seen in shops this year.

Crikey- I've never paid more than £5 for a fish! (although I've bought a lot of fish at £4.99/£5). I've seen decorus (or at least they were listed as decorus) for anything from £12 to £20 over the last year, but probably not at that size, but don't these grow pretty quickly? My eupterus has grown to about 5.5"-6" TL from 2.5" in a year; I know decorus are a lot shyer but thuoght they were fast-growers too.

I'm sure it will make up for lost time. They love to eat, and given the chance will overfeed until they look like they've swallowed a golf ball.

congratulations, Mats!!

Mine was about £14-95 from bas bolton about 2 years ago now for a 3-4 inch fish he is now about 8 inch they do grow fast but great in a community syno tank.

dont put angelicus in with him , they will fight like cat and dog !
