Great pics Frank- my splendens spawned last year but by the time I'd found my camera (about 6 months!) they'd changed to mini-adults. I used to think they looked amazing when they sat at rest, occasionally flicking the bright orange Dimetrodon-like sail-fin.

That's the first time I've seen what the juvenile B. splendens looks like, very stunning. Great pic Frank. I've seen other pics of yours of equal quality. Do you have a gallery that displays all your cory pics? I'd like to have a look.

splendens fry are amazing because they change appearance on an almost daily basis- check out the line drawings on Scotcat's breeding article. The dorsdal fin becomes huge then gradually shrinks back to "normal" size on them.

Thanks, all. They have since spawned, again and are getting ready for another bout. - Frank

Hi Frank,
Your Brochis splendens photo is excellent. My congratulations on your successful spawns. They are particularly attractive as juveniles.
I have to get a better camera for fish photos. If you don't mind my asking, what camera and lens combination do you usually use?
I have been considering a Nikon D40 but it may not be a good choice for macrophotography and the next models in the Nikon line might have to wait until I sell enough fish to buy one of those. Nikon D80 with a Tamron Telephoto is the higher priced set I am considering.

Possibly the single most unique looking Cory specie, that I have spawned, anywayz.

First time I saw one in a mixed fry tank, I had no idea what it was. lol.

I use a Canon 1Ds with a 50 mm Canon macro lens and 2 off-camera flashes. Only one was firing for these shots, though.

I think you'll find that the choice of equipment is secondary to the amount of time you need to practice shooting. I have on more than one occasion shot 500 or more images to get one that I considered acceptable. Luckily, electrons are free. lol.
If I can assist you in any way with pertinent info before you make your purchase, feel free to ask. - Frank

I didn't realize the babies had more splendid fins then the adults. Is it all cories or just some types? That is so amazing!!! I wish some of my cory eggs would hatch now!!
