Help! What to do about slime.

Alright, I have a slime problem. Its not going away. I do water changes daily(15-50%, as needed). The slime is a redish rust color. It comes out of my filter in clumps. I've taken the fiter and media out, cleaned and boiled all parts. I took out the slimeist of my driftwood and boiled it and let it sit in the sun for days. I vaccuum the tank EVERY DAY! Any one know what this stuff is, and how to get rid of it in a 75 G tank filled with discus and plecos?

Thanks!

slime? like slimy stuff in the filter? Only?

How many discus and pl*cos are in that 75?

I have noticed my filter is more slimy since I got the little BN. But just the filter insides and the place where the water runs out. Andmine isn't red or rustish.

Did you soak or boil your dirftwood real well? I mean that could account for the red rust colour but I don't know about the slime. Unless the tannins from your driftwood are making your slime that colour? :?:

Even your driftwood is slimy?

By boiling the filter media and decor, you have killed most of the beneficial bacteria in your tank. Your tank will basically have to cycle itself from scratch.

Be very cautious when feeding to not cause ammonia or nitrite spikes, until your bacteria get back to a normal level.

Why not post a picture of the "slime"? That should make the ID a lot easier.

If it's a "recycling" tank, then maybe the red/brown slime is the reddish type of algae/bacteria growth you get during cycling.

I think the decor and filter media were boiled as a result of the "slime" infestation.

What are you feeding those pleco's and how much?

It's red algae, and you'll just have to keep keep cleaning it out. I would'nt boil your stuff though
