Effects of Aglae Destroyer + on Algae Eating fish

Post by AU Chief »

I brought home 3 Bristlenose Plecs fry today. My quarintine tanks is overs stocked/seemingly algae free at the moment and since these came from a breeder tank that had no problems and was well established I have decided I'd rather just add them into their permanent home. The problem is I treated it for algae 2 days ago and I am unsure as to the effects that might have on the fry. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge they can share?

Thanks!

The treatment of the algae itself will most likely not harm the fish, but it will kill the algae, which has some side-effects:
- deteriorating algae will reduce the oxygen levels.
- there will be less algae for the fish to eat - easily solved by adding extra food. Have a look at my feeding article (linked on the right of this post).

Alright that leads me to another question, would my spotted raphael (about 4 in) eat my .75 in fry?

deteriorating algae will reduce the oxygen levels.
And to solve or make sure this is not a problem add an airstone for a while, unless you have a high flow rate already

Unfortunately, I can't quite say for sure on that. I'd expect they would have to be pretty hungry. Also in difference to for example tetras, the bristlenoses are quite alert at night, and they are spiky so wouldn't be "smooth" swallowing. But I wouldn't bet a precious fish on that.

How big is the spotted Raphael for a start?
Lou: Every young man's fantasy is to have a three-way.
Jacob: Yeah not with another fu**!ng guy!
Lou: It's still a three-way!
