Okay! my 7 year old son has gotten into this hobby big time. I raise angelfish and plakats and he loves helping me and watching. So when he turned 7 last March, I set him up with a 29g with livebearing Limia Perugias and some habrosus. He's got 5 cats in there right now and I'm going to set up a 5g for him to put the cats in for spawning. I read Shane's Reproduction log and that'll help big time! So tell me that I'm doing this right as we've never had anything going with the cats before.

the 5 will have a thin layer of sand (or would it be better bare? If feeding the fry micros, wouldn't it be better to be bare so they can find the worms?). I've got oak leaves up the you know what outside, but what do I do to make sure they are okay for the tank? We've been here for 2 years, and in that time not used any pesticides in our woods and I'm highly doubting the previous owner did either. (we've got about 3 of our 5 acres that are woods, oaks a huge part of that). So do I just toss in the tank the old leaves on the ground? I've also got java moss in my fry tanks that I can add to this tank.

Then once the cats are in there, how do I know that they are spawning? They are egg scatterers right? And do I need to remove them from the tank when they are done? I've already got microworms and bbs because of my other fry so we are ready in that aspect. I just want to be sure we are doing right by the cats:)

Thank you thank you!!!

Your son is very lucky indeed. I got mu first tank at 10

Corydoras do scatter eggs, and yes, it is OK to remouve the eggs, but did you read what - quite recently, yesterday or the day before, was posted in het Calichidae section about C habrosus?

Oh he's loving it:) I do the cleaning as I don't want him sucking up any babies, but he feeds and keeps everything else going right.

I read this link just today - http://www.planetcatfish.com/shanesworl ... cle_id=235

I just want to get the set up right. Not sure what to do pre setting it up as far as the oak leaves and things. Do I just rinse them, or should they be soaked or anything? We've got well water, so the set up time is less than having to cycle for long days worth, plus have a seeded sponge filter that'll go in there all ready to go. Just want to get it right:)

Thank you!!!

Perfect! thank you thank you! K forget the 5 g, bring on the 20 long and yay! sounds like I need more than 5 that we currently have. Will be on the lookout for more from a different source. Thank you thank you! This topic can be closed or deleted or whatever you'd like. I'll save to favs the other and thanks again!:)
