Jools, have you added pictures to yours? If so I can't see them.
Can we add non-catfish species to the tank species list?
Good feature by the way!

Aha! You've stumbled across one of my schemes for world domination! The short answers is no, but please do log a feature request! I do however have a long term plan for this and I do plan to allow it.

They don't show for me (white sqare with red cross)
I can't even get mine to upload - I have posted something in the bugs forum about it anyway.

The picture thing was a bug it only showed the picture to the person who uploaded it. No one else could see hence why it slipped past my testing! It was fixed around the time you looked at the page Mats, so i think you saw the new fix in place.

Is it possible to make the images clickable and therefore bigger?

Now try hovering over them, I've just added this new feature which saves on clicking, gives you instant views of the images and is bandwidth neutral.

As per my post in the bugs forum, I am still unable to upload an image for my aquaria! Again I have tried uploading a jpg and a jpeg, but both give me the same message.
Have also tried extension in capital letters, making the file dimensions smaller and shortening the filename, but all no joy!
I am assuming there is no limitiations on the files?

When I hover over them, i only get a strip of about 1cm of the left hand side of the image. This is at work using IE6.
Odd - I did a right click on one of racoll's images to see what image extension it would save it as, and then the image appeared as expected

Much better, although the first time I hover over them, the image does not appear (only a thin strip). Only appears the second time.

Hi Martin,
It must be <512K in size. Filename shouldn't matter. If you're still stuck, email me the file and I will try it to see why it is failing.
Cheers,
Jools

Love the new feature, kudos to Jools...
I am getting the same issue trying to upload images.
They are all xxx.jpg all are under 512k all give the same error as the poster above.
Most of my images are edited and saved from photoshop if that makes any difference to the jpg format.
Here is a link to a copy of the image I uploaded to my server to save clogging your email box...
http://mikesfishing.com/ploco/june2006.JPEG
On my harddrive the file shows as
june2006.JPEG type JPEG Image size 53KB dimensions 500x192

Fixed, the hover over function will only display fixed width first time around. So I've taken that option rather than the "point at it twice" thing.

OK, an improvement has been made whereby the image width is captured at upload time and so your image will display at it's intended size first time. Hoorah! Anyone uploading images before now (e.g. the time this post was made) will have their images default to 640 pixels wide, but if you wish them to size properly, just simply upload them again.

The additional information is now displayed where I think you were expecting it to be. I forgot to add it in previously.

Apologies if I've missed instructions somewhere, but I can't seem to assign species to more than one aquarium- it just seems to overwrite the previous aquarium. Nice feature though...

There aren't any instructions (and maybe there should be) but the idea is that you create populations and then assign them to tanks. So, just add the same species again and then add it to a different tank. This is because, say you have two groups of a species and one of them breeds, well, you'll want to know about the tank they are in , what was different from the other tank, that kind of thing.

We've now had enough users uploading (or trying to upload...) images for me to refine the feature to remove a lot of bugs. The maximum image file size is now reduced to 300K, the maximum image height and width is 1024 pixels and I also do a lot more validation on those funky characters that people like to put in their aquaria names.
So, for example, you can still call your aquarium Jools' Tank#1(`Rio Atabapo`), you can still upload a file name of Atabapo #1.jpg but it is stored in the server in a more refined form and it's MUCH harder to break an upload as long as it's within the size limits.

Hi, Tonight was to be my first post, after lurking for so long, so I thought I would update the My Aquaria area first.
A fantastic feature that I just seemed to stumble upon.
I do seem to be having a few issues uploading images though. I have tried from Photobucket and ImageShack in every format, however the save and publish button, on the my aquaria page, does nothing unless I actually try and upload the image directly from my hard drive. The modem does the blinky light thing so it looks like data is transfering, and if the file does not meet the requirements then I am getting the correct error messages on the screen; however what appears to be a happy upload only shows the white box with the red cross. I have also logged on and off. Is there some additional permission I need on my profile?
Sorry if I am just missing something.

Hi krazyGeoff,
You can only upload from a hard drive and not from elsewhere on the internet. I don't have any plans to do otherwise at the moment. However, I will make that clearer on the edit form (although it does say upload, I do appreciate that's a technical distinction).
I am also interested in the comment about "stumble upon" and so interested in suggestions on how to better promote use of the feature.

Hi Jools,
I am also interested in the comment about "stumble upon" and so interested in suggestions on how to better promote use of the feature.
Basically I had got another species and was adding them to "My Cats" and noticed the red writing "Not assigned to an aquarium" and thought "hmmmm red writing on the screen, that wasn't there last time, how do I make that go away". A couple of clicks later and I was updating details about my tank setups. It wasn't till tonight when I was trying to add a picture (which I still can't add. I have put it in a folder with no spaces in the path in case it is that old space in the file path issue) that I found this thread, which let me know I was on a really new feature.
I would think that it will be self promoting, there seem to be a lot of people who have added to it already. Aren't we all interested to see what other people are doing

I can't say why, but there's obviously something with your image that is causing the system to baulk [not sure what, and almost certainly not your fault]. I am not able to analyze the image content itself here at work, but I copied your image and tried to upload it to my Eheim 96, and like your tank, it doesn't show the image at all.
Also, Jools: Is there any way to delete an image [I know this is probably not very frequent, but sometimes it may come in handy].

Hi again Jools,
Thought you should also know that the display for the description field on the "aquaria of 'username' " page displays less text than you can save when you edit the details.
Cheers

I can't seem to upload a pic this evening. Just a small white box with the file name inside (the Firefox equivalent of the box with the red cross).
The file is called "twofooter.jpg" and is 640x369.
I am also interested in the comment about "stumble upon" and so interested in suggestions on how to better promote use of the feature.
Perhaps some more links such as one here or here?
