River stone in fish tanks

im setting up my new 65 gallon and i am using some driftwood i got at the pet shop. i also want to have some rock piles for my synos to hide in. i went down to the local creek and pulled out a bunch of rocks. i was wondering if usually you boil them before you put them in your tank? i previously had rocks in my 55 that i just got from around the house and i boiled them before i put them in. what do you guys recommend doing as far as preparing the rocks to go in the tank? also if anyone has pics of tanks with sand, driftwood, and rocks only i would love to see them to get some ideas. thanks. jason.

I use a lot of stone...river rock,slate and others and I usually just give them a good scrub in the sink with hot water or for large ones a brush and hose mostly because of dirt...but where I live we may have less nasty little critters to worry about that would or could hitch a ride, and not to many chemicals to worry about.

I just put them where I want them, and than I add water

Usually i just give 'em a quick scrub in hot water.

That is unless they are likely to alter the water chemistry in a situation that i don't want them to.

Same here. Do choose rocks of stable chemistry. Avoid soft rocks.

I get stones from a river, so I give them a good scrub to get rid of loose dirt, then a high-salt bath to kill any macro/microorganisms (just in case), then a freshwater soak to remove any salt, then use them.
