Breeding Peru Green Stripe Corydoras

Post by jac »

Hey,

I am new on this forum.
My name is Jacqueline and I am the proud owner of a group C. Peru Green Stripe or Laser Green Corydoras.
I have been searching the net for more information about the species. But what I would really like is personal experiences of people how have successfully bred whit this type of Corydoras.
What were your water conditions such as PH and other factors? And the best temperature to get them in de mood? Did you have sand, wood or plants in your tank? Like reconstructed there habitat or just a empty tank whit water? What is best to feed them?
Sorry for all the questions but I would like to learn everything about them.

I also have a group of C. Panda and C. Elegans. The C. Panda are to small/young yet to breed but I have had some eggs from the C. Elegans in my big Discus tank in the living room. The eggs hatched but then I lost the tiny larvae. They had escaped through the small slits of there hatching box witch floated in the tank. That was my very first time I had Cory eggs. I hope they will give me an other chance and spawn again.

I would really like to here your stories.
Bye :D

I have bred Green Lasers i few times. My group consists of wild caught specimens and they seem very seasional. Mine have spawned in january-february the last two years. Only these two months.

I do normal weekly 50% waterchanges with cool rainwater and keep my fish at 25 celcius.

They place the eggs on the leaves of a javafern and on the glass.

I have a friend that bred his in the autumn, so it is possible to spawn them outside the season mine are doing it in.

I have heard that tank bred stock are much more breedable all year round.
Best regards,
Kim M

Hello,

Thanks for the reply's.
I did already read the articles from Don Kinyon, quite interesting.

I currently keep my Cory's at 22 celcius and give them a water change every 2-3 days. The fresh (tap) water is about 16 celcius. My PH is 7,2 from the tap.

Are there more people with experiences to share?

Thanks

Greetings. I have fish that I originally got from Don Kinyon, which are breeding, now. They are kept at 72º, pH 7.0 and medium hardness. They get 50% water changes, 2x per week and are fed a variety of foods. They are in a bare-bottom 10 USG tank with 2 sponge filters.

Mine favor depositing their eggs on the underside of broad leaf Ludwigia, starting at the bottom of the plant, where the leaves are the largest and working their way up. The eggs are deposited in groups of from 3 to 7, on average. Mine have about a 50% viability rate. I suffer very few fry losses from this specie.

They are currently housed with a large group of fancy guppies, (tank space is hard to come by) which does not faze them in the least, as far as spawning goes.

Hope this helps. - Frank

Hi Jacquline,
I have not bred any of the Laser familly of Corydoras yet but it looks to me like maintaining them at 22*C for conditioning then doing a large water change along with a temperature increase to 25*C is the way to trigger their breeding.
I did not realize they were such a cool water species but I haven't researched them since I haven't kept them yet.
I'll have to give them a try some time. They are a pretty group of Corys.

Hi there,

At the most impossible timing (we are building in our home at the moment) my little green lasers have spawned!!!! :D
I am trilled to bits!!!!!! Very exiting that I am reworded for my care for them.

As I told you, we are very working hard at the moment so no pictures at this moment. I have taken some this morning but haven't put them on the computer yet.

Greets, Jacqueline!!

Hi,

Sadly my first attempt failed
The eggs turned white and fungussed. But this week they spawned again, yesterday. Also these eggs are starting to fungus. And today they spawned twice again. I didn't use any fungal medication but with the eggs of today I did. I put them in a little tank with an airstone and a little drop of fungal medicine. And I put them in the dark. I hope it works.....

I read all of the reply's above again and read that most of you have a lower PH. Can this be the reason that the eggs are turning white?? My PH is 7,3 from the tap. Do I have to use osmose water or maybe rainwater?

Greetings!! Jacqueline

Gald to hear they spawned, but sad to hear of the fungus...

I use rainwater for spawning my green lasers and I also use alder cones as anti-fungal treatment.

Finger crossed for the next time, once they have started I am sure that they will go again for you. What temp had you maintained them at prior to spawning?

Hi,

My Green lasers spawned 4 times in 9 days :D
The average is about a 50 to 130 eggs so far.

I am going to start with osmose water and try to figger out what the best micro siemens is for the eggs to hatch.
The temperature was about 23 degrees. But when the sun shines it is warmer in my shed and sometimes I left the heaters off to let the water cool at night. The last two spawning were after I refilled there tank with a few cups of cold water.

I will keep you informed

No, this time was a small spawning.
The females still show a fat belly and the group is active again. That is a sign that they will spawn again in a couple of days. I hope they spawn more eggs on that attempt.
But I'm very happy with the youngsters I have now :D

Hi there :D

Since my last posting I had an other large spawning of my green lasers. But I am having some problems on keeping them alive after they hatch :(
My last spawning counted around 150 eggs. Great!! But sadly they all died after a week or so. I think it might be a bacterial problem but I'm not sure....
The one good thing is that I do have 1 baby laser witch survived :) I've had him from the first spawning so I might not be doing everything wrong after all

Does someone have some tips for me how to raise the fry of green lasers? I would be very great full

Here some pictures of my little baby and one of the group. They are very shy so it is difficult to take nice pictures of them.

BBS 2 times a day + twice a day 50% water change with water from aquarium ( but I did not have any filter in this plastic box).
I've lost most of them because of overfeeding, so try to avoid it.

But is BBS not to big for them in the first stage? I've also got micro worms if that is better? They are smaller.

In my experience microworms make water worser.
BBS are fine for 2 days old greens.

But I've lost half of them, so may be I am wrong. :?

Hi there,

After a winter stop my Green lasers have resumed spawning again today :D
That will be nearly the exact day they began spawning last year, that was the 9th of June
I find this realy remarkeble  Fenominable little creatures :D
I nearly gave up hope, as I tried to get them breeding again earlier this year but failled to get them spawning time and again.... I should just trust them for picking there own time to do so

Great! I'm really happy! As also my pleco's started breeding this week fo the first time :D

Hi all,

I am new to this forum and just read all of your posts. Thank you for sharing your experiences!

Would any of you know at what temperature the eggs need to be kept once isolated from the main tank?

Thank you in advance for your efforts.

Optimum spawning and egg hatching temperature ranges for Corydoras species are one and the same.
What the optimum temperature range is will depend upon the species in question.
