I have had mine for over a year and a half and they were at least 2"+ when I got them, mine look more like his at this point still, but do not look near as big as yours. Do you know how long it took for yours to get that size or were they already full grown when you got them?

Sorry, I forgot the "TL" in my post. I've never really pulled out a ruler, just a guestimate but I know they are over two years old... I was always wondering when they were going to start to look like yours but I'm wondering if perhaps they won't??? They don't have much bristles to speak of, perhaps all of mine are females.

Sorry I do not seem to have a full body shot of any males, my dominant and sub-dominant males look similar to pictures 1 and 5 in the Cat-eLog but a little lighter, but I think that is because of the lighter colored caves, there seems to be a lot of variance even among the same group depending on dominance, males or females, and breeding condition IMO. My breeders all seem about 2 inch SL as well and do not seem to be getting any bigger.

Just an ordinary green bean, but it also helps to show the size of these fish, that is a breeding female.

My males are more wide for about the same length, basically.

Yes, that overhead shot is interesting, I will try to get one of my "big" male, but I know he has some freshly hatched little ones so I may wait a little bit.

The LDA08 I have currently are very colorful. I sold the first group I bought years ago because
they were just to drab. The more recent strain I purchased have a sweet gold/orange tint and
also sport a nice bright orange spot on their tails. The males seem to be much brighter and
have a more contrasting pattern then the females. I also included one of the younger brighter
males with the original group I sold. Hopefully, the two unrelated fish will pair up and kick out
some awesome fry for my buddy and he can sell me some back.

So the LDA08 is another form of a bristlenose. Gold Marble BN. And just an ancistrus sp 3 or whatever number is like a non pedigreed BN?

LDA-08 is Ancistrus claro, a valid species unlike Ancistrus sp 3.
It is also one of those plecos I just have to get pretty soon. Barbie, are you reading this? I think I can afford some now since I am not actively trying to collect any more Hypancistrus for the time being. I'm sure we will be talking about making the arrangement soon.

These are the same fish I showed photos of when I started this thread. Now they've decided to show gold spotting. I would love to know what people think these really are. This color came after I stopped using softer water. I now have them in straight tap water(ph7.5 and moderately hard Gh and Kh).

They look like the Ancistrus claro I have seen at Barbie's.
Also sounds like very similar water conditions.
pH 7.4, KH ~6 GH ~7 and TDS ~350 ppm.

I was always struck by the bright gold dots my juveniles had but as you say, could be different populations vary in color. This makes more sense to me, that they could represent different populations of the same species. I don't think there is much evidence point to the existence of several dwarf Ancistrus pp. Not against that if I am wrong because as handy as the common Ancistrus sp 3 is, it still grows a little large for a 20 Long or smaller aquariums and I just like dwarf species of plecos and Corydoras or Aspidoras. Nano tanks and fish have a special charm of their own and when all the fish are in proportion to one another and their tanks then the results are just that much more appealing.

Finally moved their tank and got overhead pictures of my Ancistrus claro which have been breeding regularly and are a whole 2 inches long
