Lethargic Cory

Post by SOBERKITTY »

Just out of curiosity, is it normal for a Cory to be lethargic after spwning? :? My has been very sluggish since scattering about 20-30 eggs sometime in the late evening on Monday. The last time I found eggs in the tank there were only about 5-8 on the glass.
Temp in tank is about 74-76F
I did a water change on Sunday 2 days ago
Nitrate and nitrite are zero
Don't know about ammonia but shouldn't be too high just did water change
PH says 6.0 but i'm having that tested.
The only other thing is that I took out 3 bala Shanks yesterday around 3 hours before I found the eggs.

I put half the normal dose for a 29 gallon of stress coat in the water just because well trying to get the balas out everyone got a bit stressed so I figured it couldn't hurt.

when my female is done she usually sits still somewhere and rests for awhile. But prior to that they lay eggs and spawn for hours. So then she rests for quite a bit. How long has she been still?

Since about 6 o'clock last night. Monday night. But it could be that she doesn't feel the need to "flit" all over the tank now that the Balas are gone. Three 6-7 inch fish in a 29 gallon could I guess have made her more active then she would have been. Cause they sure were active. :)

Since 6 oclock last night? Hmmm. That's a long time to be still. Is she eating normally? Is she breathing normal or hard?

Not still so much as not active. She moves. Hang on.......... okay I'm back. Just went to check on her now that lights are out. She is moving around a bit more. But the thing that worries me is that the 3 algea tabs I put in after lights out last night are still there. :( And well I know how hungry I was after giving birth :) so thought she would be famished.

Hmm, I don't know. Maybe they are getting used to the other fish being gone and like you said got stressed out from the experience?

Did you try diff food?

She has nosed around the gravel a bit and I put in shrimp pellets along w/ the tabs but they seem to be untouched too. I just hope she doesn't get more stressed when I move on Saturday, but it can't be helped. I will just have to pray for the best and watch for other signs of either getting worse or better. I love my Vacuum :( I don't want anything to happen to her.

It still never fails to amaze me how I can get so attached to a fish and then turn around and order seafood. I mean I cried when I dropped off the three amigos (thats what we called the balas) at the LFS.

On the other hand I've seen a decrease in the danio activity and an increase in the activity of my Platydoras costatus (I love my Angel). So maybe the removal of one group of fish really does affect everyone else in the tank. Okay it's official I'm a fish freak.

Just an update. I got moved and Vacuum is doing well and being frisky. We call her the Golden Retreiver of the tank. She always looks like she is wagging her tail every time she swims in front of the tank. :)
