I'll be receiving a group of Microsynodontis chrystyi this week. Is there somebody out there with first-hand experience with these guys? Thanks.

I have been keeping a group of microsyno's for four years now...they are not chrystyi but the sp.1 but maybe this can help in some way
I keep them in water with a ph of 7.8 usually but have also kept them in water with a lower ph in attempts to spawn in which I have been so far unsuccessful so far as I know.
They are not too difficult to feed,I feed mine NLS pellets, they love bloodworms,I have been keeping mine with Ancistrus claro and I am quite sure they have been raiding the nests for eggs.
They are very reclusive...you will usually only see them at feeding time unless you arrange their hidey holes for you to view.
They will cram themselves under and in any small hole.
Here are a few pictures of what I use to house them
The first two are of a microsyno apartment block...I took a small piece of wood and drilled many 5/8 holes with a spade bit...but there are still a couple that decided they liked it better crammed underneath
Even the Ancistrus claro have moved in
The most dominant male and female have been seen fighting over this place...maybe even spawning action of some kind I am not really sure because it happens only sporadically...it is small terracotta plates sandwiched together, with a small hole,I see the male sitting here all the time.

I am getting mine from Toyin (rehobothaquatics.com); I expect them being shipped my way this week. Toyin lists them as M. cf. chrystyi. I agree with you that it's not a given that the fish have been identified correctly. Before placing the order I checked with Toyin because I thought I might end up getting M. batesi. He says that his chrystyi are definitely distinct from his batesi.
I have been keeping a group of M. cf. polli for about two years (also from Toyin); they have not yet spawned.

Wonderful pics of your Microsyno tank Birgir
At the moment i have no Micro Syn's , which is unusual for me ,they really are fantastic fish and well worthy of a place in a species tank
very interesting and great looking , also not too demanding , just plenty of hidey holes and a varied diet .
I must keep a look out for these , a few years back i had both Sp/s1 and M. Batesi ?
