Does any one use moonlights? I know alot of people use them in reef setups but what about catfish tanks. Would they be benificial for the fish. I think it would be pretty cool to be able to view my cats at night but wouldn't want to stress them out either. Any one have any experience using them? If so what do you think about them?

I haven't ried any of the LED moonlights but I do know tha nocturnal fish will come out in red light as if there weren't any lights on. I would try the red moonlghts over the blue-white for this reason.

I'm very pleased with the moonlight LED device. Highly recommended. Some more details in the Auchenipteridae thread.
Btw: the fishes aren't in the least bothered by the blue colour and they are more visible in it compared to red light.

I use a bluemoon actinic lamp on many of my tanks and they are great for observing catfish.

The trick is to buy one smaller than your tank (e.g. a 2' lamp in a 4' tank), otherwise the blueness is a bit overpowering...

I use the blue LEDS, I have a string of three that I lay over the top of the glass panals. They don't seem to mind them too much. And you can see their silhouettes moving around. And their top high fin! :D
