I haven't seen them regularly ever in the uk - only on occasion. I think Tri-Mar have one currently but it's a long way from you

I checked with
http://www.tropicalfishfinder.co.uk, and it also didn't help much - appears that they aren't exactly common.

The one i was thinking of which i thought was TRIMAR was a large (not for Longirostris) individual in a display tank 9" if i remember - it may have been sold as you say. Although i obviously haven't been to every uk shop all the time, in my 25 years of being interested in catfish, i can only recall personally seeing about half a dozen Longirostris.
I'll make a few enquiries with some of my lfs contacts & see what's been on the lists lately & let you know if i hear anything

Only member "caudalis" is a registered keeper in the UK - you could PM him to see where he got it from. You never know, he might be open to offers but then again, maybe not.

Sorry wouldn't part with mine!
I got her from the aquatic shop in Hurrans Gardens centre near Newport. I've also not seen many, 6 or 7 in 20 years.

There also were some hybrids going around last year or the year before(I am not sure which)that were being sold as longirostris on both sides of the big pond...so double check if you do find something.

She's 7-8 inches now, hasn't actually grown that much since i've had her. Cost me £60.00.
I'll keep an eye out.

I used to have two which I bought at Creamston Aquatics in Haverfordwest for £26.50 each. But this was a one-off thing and it was several years ago. I've never seen any since then.

The long snout is a special adaptation for taking pieces of prawn from human fingers.

Not a sign of 'em on the two wholesale lists i've just been through (aquarium glaser 33 pages & another 51 pages). Synos were poorly represented on both

There are still quite a few species available but just not as many as 15 years ago - L numbers definately seem to be in focus at the moment.
I can regulalrly find...
Alberti
brichardi
angelicus
soloni
flavitaeniatus
nigrita
waterloti
ocellifer
nigriventris
contractus
decorus
acanthomias
multipunctatus
lucipinnis
polli
eupterus
aterrimus - debatable if it is the same species everyone recognises?
Species now seen far less often
filamentosus
clarias
robertsi
pleurops
robbianus
schall
longirostris (obviously)
There are a few i've not mentioned, but what do others think - is this inded the case? Or is it different in your area or country?

It sounds as if your search goes on. Have you tried
Tom Halvorsen? He is a trade only supplier, but was helpful when I was trying to find a mudskipper a few years back, even though he didn't have any. If he has one you could get your LFS to order it. Apparently he's closed until July sometime at the moment.

Even though i'm not the one looking for a Longirostris i dreamt about finding one in a dealers tank last night, mixed in with some assorted synos - maybe i need to ease off on catfish related stuff? (I was quite dissappointed when i woke up & found it was only a dream - Doh!)
