Looks like a Synodontis of some sort.

A side-view shot would help quite a bit. Or have a look at as suggested by Lornek8 - just be aware that the result may not be entirely conclusive, as there are quite a few of them that are "similar with subtle differences".

Are the spots a few & quite large or lots of small ones?

MatsP is spot on (geddit?) a side view would help us no end (sorry for the appalling pun, i was having a 'moment')

This is the best side view i could get, and he does have small spots.

Without a better pic looks like a common Synodontis eupterus to me. The second shot had eupterus-like markings.
Good luck,
Josh

Whilst I don't doubt Silurus's experience and knowledge, I would put 50p on the S. eupterus simply from a statistical point of view - there are probably 20 of those for every S. greshoffi ever sold.

I know how difficult it is to get a decent photo so it looks like we're still providing best guesses - have we considered nigrita & is there any specific reason to discount it? It is such a variable species, that said greshoffi is too & eupterus is certainly a possibility. Greshoffi seems a lot more scarce in the uk than it used to be but don't know about where you are?

mr.gobie, is this your fish?

I've had one of these for several years now, and if I remember correctly there was some debate on whether these are a different species from S.nigrita. I've kept the real S.nigrita in the past, and these "green nigrita" appear decidedly different to me at least.

Here's a couple (very old) pics of my fish..

Fortunately the days of it being beaten-up by my big S.resupinatus ended when they went from the 135g tank to a 300g tub. ;)
