I'm certainly no expert, but the pictures look more like
Ancistrus sp(3) or
Ancistrus triradiatus. The medusa pleco (
Ancistrus ranunculus (see
for species profile) is supposed to be black (although some of the pictures don't bear that out) but easy to ID because of a really wide head. Your pictures don't show that well, but the head doesn't seem extraordinary to me. Also, if you check the profile pictures, L034 seems to have the tentacles confined to the front, whereas yours have them up the middle, which is typical of triradiatus. Hopefully Silurus or some other knowledgeable person will give you a more authoritative answer.

Hi Inser and welcome to PC!
Your fish is not L034 (Ancistrus Ranunculus) and most probably is Ancistrus sp.3 or other similar sp.
Can you post better pics or at least tell us the spot colors (from the pics looks redish). Is this correct?
Here you can see what L034 looks like...

Jim I bought them from Spiros Kakouris(zwofilia) a year and a half ago.
A week ago, I noticed that the male one was standing at the entrance of a hole located on a big piece of wood. Two days ago I used a flashlight and found out that the male was protecting its 50 babies.
So yesterday I placed them in a smaller (80 litres) tank with their father.
Any suggestions are welcomed!

Just as a matter of interest these young have the same markings on their body as the young of my Ancistrus sp.3
The only other comparison I have is A. claro which are quite different, more of a traditional camouflage pattern.

Those babies are very cute
! I agree with Birger. This is definitely, to me, Ancistrus sp. (3). Good luck rearing them.

I did not actually say yours were sp.3 (they look it to me) just that the babies were the same pattern, It would be hard for me to say what yours are from the pictures supplied as a lot of these look so similar.
What is the length of your male?
What factors make you so sure it is sp.8?
I am feeding a mix of cyclops with spiroulina and fish vitamin..am i doing right?
If they are breeding you are doing something right, I would have some form of veggies in with the babies, slice of zuchini or green beans

Finally a fool proof ID. Sorry Birger, I didn't mean to say that you said it was sp.(3).
