L46 Tankmates

Hi all

I am new to plecos and got some questions to ask.

Everyone tells me that the L46 should be a species tank and that I should not add any other plecos with them. However due to the infamous pleco fever and no space to buy more tanks, i really want to keep L46 with some other plecos of the same size and same diet type. I want to house about 2 L46 and 2 of something else in a 2 ft tank. Is that a problem?

Hello Jeffrey

2 ft is a very little tank. I would only recommend one sort of pleco.

And if you want to breed, it's always better to have more of a kind.

Best regards

Hi all

Thanks for the replies. I do not intend to breed the L46s. But I agree the 2 ft is a small tank. I will reconsider my options again

I have two L-46 species tanks, one a 30 long and the other a 20 long. I have a third 20 long set up waiting for my third group. I have two albino corys and two albino bristlenose in each tank and so far no problems. One L-46 tank produces fry.

When you say 20 long, is it 20 inches or 20 cm?

It's a 20 gallon "long" format.

Here's one page that has a few standard US aquarium sizes. http://www.anapsid.org/resources/tanksize.html

I have a few small L46 in a community 125 gallon tank. Theres some BIG plecos in there with them too, 8" L330, a couple other 4" panaques and some LDA33 and a few other hypans, no problems at all, but I have a crap load of hiding places.
