Hi,

I saw that the entries in Cat-eLog all have the genus spelled Trachysurus, while in the article it is Tachysurus, which is the correct spelling. Sorry to spoil your enthousiasm  .

And another one: shouldn't the udates read Pseudobagrus...... instead of Tachysurus.......?
Anyway, you must enter the correct valid name as I am not allowed/can't do that while editing. I'll see to the synonyms after that has been done  .

My misspelling of the generic name is now fixed. On the matter of the species updates, the way the thing works is that the page shows the latest information for a change - so it is working correctly.

Then pls tell me how to get around the problem that a fish has a name which is identical to its/a synonym, for that is what you'll get. The same problem occured with the plecos that had to go back to Pterygoplichthys.
If I remember correctly you changed the official valid names first and after that I did the synonyms.

Marc,

That's what I've done, the official valid name is now, for example, Tachysurus fulvidraco and Pseudobagrus fulvidraco is now a junior synonym. Or have I misunderstood your question?

Well, perhaps I misunderstood the whole thing. The title of this post reads Tachysurus = (is) Pseudobagrus now, which made me believe all Tachysurus in the Cat-eLog had to become Pseudobagrus......
That, plus some of the information in HH's article, probably misguided me (?).

Nope it means all species listed as Pseudobagrus are now Tachysurus.

Okay, all clear.
I'll see to it that the synonyms will be added in the course of this week.

In case you are not aware, there has been an application to the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature to reinstate Pseudobagrus as the valid name for this genus, and we have commented on the application here.

Let's see how this plays out.

The commission has ruled against the application.

The genus name remains Tachysurus.

Good. And that, as they say, is that.
