Hello all,

Ive just joined. My name is Steve and im from South Wales, UK.

I am considering getting back into the fishkeeping hobby and buying a new tank that is sized 24x12x16 inch, id love a much bigger tank but im quite limited by my budget. Could someone please suggest what types of Catfish/how many of them i could put in a tank that size ? I know this question gets asked quite a lot but im quite confused and i hope someone can help !

Thanks very much. :)

Steve

My list would have to include the following possibilities:
Hypancistrus species
Dwarf Corydoras/Aspidoras
Corydoras
L10a Red whiptails
Banjo Catfish
Common Ancistrus sp3
Ancistrus claro
Tatia perugiae
This are small to medium size fish that do well in your size of tank and cover an interesting range of behaviors, shapes, and colors. All are peaceful and can be kept in community tanks. Some are easy to breed while others are more challenging.

Welcome to the forum Steve. :D

In addition to the South American species that Larry recommended, how about these African or Asian species:

These will have specific requirements, but shouldn't be too hard if their needs are met.

As fan of American fishes, I'm pleased that even a list of non americnas contains one - the microglanis
