Availability of C. agassizii ?

Post by UncaToddly »

Hi again all. In a post in Tank Talk I had mentioned our 55g had 1 C. agassizii in it (as well as other fish LOL) and I was told that part of the reason the little guy (or gal) was so reclusive was because he was alone. It was recommended that he be in a group of at least 4 and preferably 6+ so we have been looking for more.

We went back to the LPS we got him from (he was sold as C. julii which he is clearly not) and the one guy whom I have known since he was at another shop here in the Seattle, WA area said he would get some in C. agassizii in for me as they are usually on the list. Well, no luck the first week. Same the 2nd. Same the 3rd. He said he didn't know if it was a seasonal thing or what because it seemed like he always saw them on the list before. He said it was like they dried up so to speak.

So I tried searching online for them and the only site that lists them for sale is ThatPetPlace.com and they are showing them as "Out of Stock" too.

Is it a matter of being out of season? It is my understanding that they are all WC stock as what little I have found on breeding seems to indicate that they either haven't been bred successfully in captivity or they are being bred in microscopic numbers.

I would like to get the little guy a nice group of friends to cruise around with but am not having any luck and while the wife thinks I can just put some C. julii in or other ones and it would be OK, I have heard otherwise.

Any help?

Thanks!

Todd
