I waw wondering at what size does a Sperata Aor become intolerant of other catfish. I have one that is just under 3 inches in a 55 gallon with some other larger fish. Currently he's not as aggressive as either a Mystus nemurus or a Mystus leucophasis but he does have an appetite.

Hi,I have one of these animals ,its a foot long now and still a mild mannered animal.

I've grown it from 2"long in 3 years .I have never seen this animal behave aggressively even when hassled by other fish.

Then I might be able to eventually put him in my 125 gallon with my Syn. Decorus,a pair of ancistrus, and some cichlids.

Nice to meet some other people who own this species...there just arent enough of these awesome cats around! Mine is about 14" and so far is pretty mild mannered. He retaliates if another fish bothers him (theres a Jack Dempsey in the tank that bugs him now and then), but he's never aggressive without cause.

HOWEVER...if these cats do get over six feet (per this websites profile!) I wonder if any of ours are anywhere near maturity and what changes might be brought on by maturity.

My experience was a bit different. I learned early on that they don't like their conspecifics, I started out with three at 2", at 4" two of them killed the third, at around 6" the dominant one killed the other. The remaining one was kept in a 135G tank with nothing but other cat species and was a good community fish until it reached 15" when it started to bully everything but my c. fowleri. At that point it went on consignment to a LFS where it grew another 3" during 6 mos. It didn't sell and I found another home for it at another LFS with a huge display tank and donated the fish to them where it now must be over 24". Pic's of my former fish are in the Cat-eLog....

My S. Aor is now about 8 inches long and I moved him into my 125 gallon. He still only comes out occassionally during the day in quicky searches for food at feeding time. He is still a very skinny looking catfish but he is eating.
