Hi all,

I first posted this in another forum and was answered kindly by a few members. But it looks like there is a an argument and i feel i can't contribute to the thread. First i want to say thanks to coryman for helping me in that thread with his top info, and i'm sorry if i triggered anything there.

I am looking into getting some c.longinpinnis for my 400litre sub tropical which is 22*C, ph is 7.2, sand substrate and moderately planted. The tank has been set up for about 3-4 months now and in a nother couple of months want to add some of these corys. I also have breeding intentions for them.

Now my question.

Will they be OK with rainbowfish, danios and several species of loach including weather loaches and hopefully yasuhikotakia nigrolineata (Spelling?), cobitis sp and some aborichthys elongatus.

I am worried about them being out competed for food?

Corys and loaches can conflict when it comes to finding food, and ideally shouldn't be mixed, in my opinion.

Since most loaches range from slightly larger to much larger, they tend to "win" in the battles over the food. So if you really want loaches, skip the corys. If you really want corys, skip the loaches.

[I'm sure someone will post that he/she has had Corys and loaches together for years - and this may well be the case, but I still think they are not suitable to mix]

My group of young (approx 6 month old)F1 longipinnis are quite secretive and would probably struggle to compete with loaches. If you plan to breed them, I would recommend a species tank with plenty of longipinnis, good cover and a few non-competitive dither fish - small rasboras, danios etc.

There were some tank bred ones being sold at last week's Preston Aquarist auction, from the same breeder as my youngsters. There may be more available (plus plenty of other corys / cats) at the Catfish Study Group November auction in Darwen, Lancashire.

22C is about right for them, but they wouldn't want it much warmer.

Thanks for that. I could set my old 30" tank back up for some of these and some microrasbora erythromicron?

The weather loach i have now is very laid back and have kept erethistes pusillus successfully with them before. But some of the other loaches i am getting probably wouldn't be as laid back and gentle.
