I saw them at petsmart and I was wondering are they shy, will they be ok in a ten gallon tank, and any tips or advice any one has on keeping them would be greatly appreciated. Thanks every one.

some syno only 2 inch, the others up to 22cm huge fish. You need to photograph the fish to get proper answer... It is uneasy to answer without photo as there are 130+ kind of synodontis

They sell them at petsmart under the name Synodontis nigriventris, I checked it today. I dont think i will be able to get a pic. I will look at the pics on here and identify it for sure when they get them back in stock. Can I get answers now? Thanks every one.

Most of what you need to know is at
. As I understand it from researching this species when I was trying to find them a while back they almost invariably swim upside down, so if these don't, that's an indication it's not nigriventis. Many other synos like to hang out upside down, but swim back-side up.

If it is Nigriventris it spends 90% of it's time upside down & could be kept in a species tank of that size although bigger is better in this case.
Other synos will invert but only for a small % of the time. (with a few other exceptions).
If it is definately not nigriventris it could be nigrita & should be avoided as it gets considerably larger.
It was pointed out that some synos can get to 22cm - actually some can get considerably larger - 60cm or more in the wild.
Nigriventris is a very rewarding species, so if you are 100% certain that is what you've seen i'd say go for it - they do much better in small groups, maybe 5(?)
