Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anybody could give me some advice.
I have just noticed that i have 2 L201,s in the same cave.
i have 5 of them, but as i said 2 are sharing, i was wondering if this could be a male and female? or is it 2 males very pally?
has anyone bred these in a tank? as it says unreported in the cat-elog.
Any more info on these would be great too.
thanks

Almost all advices you will find about the Hypancistrus Zebra, you can use.
It’s easier to find info about the Hypancistrus Zebra than the L-201`s.
I hope you will have success with them. They have been breed often, so I guess you have a fair chance.

Two in the same cave, I would expect to have fry leaving the cave in a couple weeks. Keep the tank clean, but don't do huge water changes. Also have some frozen baby brine shrimp on hand when they start leaving the cave. Congrats.

Hypancistrus fry aren't all that difficult to feed. They certainly wouldn't require BBS as a food source, although they would definitely eat it. I use New Life Spectrum grow formula pellets, flake food, sinking catfish wafers and any other number of prepared foods for fry with great success. I've also been known to do a rainy season a time or two, only to find I've washed a wiggling fry from the cave with no losses. I don't change my water change schedule just because I have fry in the cave, personally, and I have a pretty high success rate with the species I've worked with.
H. contradens has definitely been spawned in captivity. I personally know of two people that have raised them. Good luck with yours! Breeding plecos can be very rewarding, even if a bit time consuming occasionally ;).
