If this fish needs a hard process to adapt or if the adaptation is fast..

In my experience of other small Panaque species, they are pretty easy to adapt to a new place.

But it's also a question of what they are supposed to adapt to - L204 prefers hard and alkaline water, and I expect putting this fish in soft, acidic water would cause problems .

L169 probably prefers slightly softer and a pH of around 7 or slightly under.

I'm not sure if this is correct. While water of 190ms (Rio Alejandro) is a lot harder than much of amazonian waters, it is still considered soft compared to say many tapwater supplies in the UK/US.

I am making this up, but I would consider the following...

0-200ms SOFT
200-500ms MEDIUM
500ms+ HARD

Also the pH value of 8.4 was probably taken at one time of year (dry season), and I would not be surprised if the pH dropped significantly at other times of year. I have kept mine at a pH of 6.0 with no problem at all.

As far as the L204 care goes, I would say it is a species adaptable to aquarium life providing you comply with the following:

* Buying a healthy feeding fish
* Having a roomy (36"+) tank without mega-bright lighting and plenty of hiding places
* Having warm (27C+), clean (low nitrate),well oxygenated moving water
* Providing lots of soft wood and vegetables to feed on

Hi there,
i make sometimes water changements from 400ms down to 100ms...yesterday i was on 51ms today on 220ms...

so i would say of course they (L204) need time to adapt for the first time but afterwards it should be fine...
