"Nice" is not how I would describe any Clarias. Vicious gluttons would describe them more accurately.

They may not be everyone's cup-of-tea but each to their own! if they are what you enjoy keeping; fair enough, especially if they are in good condition with ample space.
They do tend to be a large, active & (as pointed out) very greedy species. Additionally if you want something that grows like crazy this is one of the fish for you

They have to be the nicest fish you will ever own. Mine actually likes to be pet and if you put your hand in the water he will circle around and rub up against you.
They do like to eat though.

Hello.
I bred C. Batrachus in year 2000. I kept a strong current at the bottom and the pair made a nest under som thin roots.
When the are breeding, thay are very agressive and alos when they rasing eggs and fry.
The female will, if nessicary, a few days after the egg have hatched, lay unfirtiliced eggs for their offspring to eat from. They will grow very fast if they stay with their parents.
Porblem is that you will have 500- 1500 (or more) small Clarias.. and they are not so popular so it can be very hard to sell them.
Temperature around 24- 28C
pH 6,7- 7,5.
If you just have a pair, I don't think that this is a hard species to breed.
Regards
Cristoffer

I agree... they grow like monsters and once they get big, they'll kill your fish
. And in Asia, they are popular for food!

Nice story, Juree. I am so glad others can enjoy the fruit of your labor of love too.
Larry (Apistomaster) is right in his way but I personally would not describe any animal as vicious. This quality, IMHO, can only belong to a creature that knows right from wrong and knows it is doing wrong. Catfish are far from this level of awareness
Sadly, it can only belong to the two-legged, most frightening creatures that ever roamed this planet.
Good to see such beautiful things happening in Latvia. I am born and raised in eastern Belarus, neighbor.
