Does anyone know anything about these fish? I have read about other eel tails and apparently they grow up to 90cm far too big for my tank, yet I have only found info on one site about this fish and it says that it grows to 20cm. If anyone has any information on this fish especially size it would be greatly appreciated.

Some googling makes me thing that what you have is , so about 350mm SL.

I could be wrong, but that was one of the best hits on Golden Eeltail Catfish in google.

1. putting your location in your profile will help others in giving you the correct advice you seek - what's called an eeltail in one country may be different to a similarly named fish in another part of the world.

2. having a look through this forum for threads with 'eeltail' in the title will help you. http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/view ... hp?t=18287

It turns out it is tandanus tandanus. Do you have any idea how fast it grows?

I expect to grow fairly quickly.

Could you please go to teh "Profile" section and fill in your location with where you live, as it's a rule on this forum. It also helps us when for example figuring out what fish you've got (some common names mean completely different things in different places).

I bought a fish that was sold as a golden eeltail (see my thread here), apparently it is which does only grow to 20cm. That might be the one you were thinking of.

Hey m8 there is 2 types and they are both Australian natives i'm led to believe.

Tandanus bostoki, (EEL Tail catty) or sometimes referred to as the Australian Cobbler. Can be fresh water and there is a saltie variety too i believe.

I have 3 large specimens which are around 25- 30cm and only 2 years old. They get large.

Then there's the Rendahli, it has a slimmer head, grows smaller i believe, but still has an eel like tail.

Ihave recently purchased 3 of these Golden eeltails out of curiosity...Will post up some piccies next week hopefully.

Their are approx 10-12 species of "Eel Tails" native to Aust.... Neo. rendahl & Neo. glencoensis are the most commonly sold as "Golden Eel Tails"

Funny how snowball and the originator are from the same country after snowball said about location profile. What a coincidence.
Me and my Mum used to catch eel tails when I was a kid but I can't remember what they looked like.
