I have a pleco that is about 5" long and pretty fat--as he is probably 3 years old I think he may be stunted as he was in a 72 gallon tank with a 12" pleco, a 12+" iridescent shark, a 6" red devil, an 8" hoplo, a 9" hoplo, and 2 cory catfish.

He has diagonal markings, and I came up with "diagonal bar" pleco after a google search. Is this an actual variety, and is it an accurate ID? I'm trying to find out how large this guy will get, as I'm not sure I want to keep him.

In any case it's a Peckoltia and none of them get very big, as far as I know.

Checking whether there spots on the belly may help to rule in/out .

At about 5" long he will be pretty well maxed out size wise.

After looking at the fish suggested, I checked his belly and he does have spots. So based on this, does it appear that he is L205?

I"m glad he's one of the small ones either way, as I think it will make it easier to find a new home for him. I think I'd prefer a Farlowella catfish, which eats algae and produces less waste than this guy.

I wouldn't think a Farlowella would be suitable for your tank with the previously mentioned species though.

Sorry for the confusion--those aren't my fish! I got the tank used, and those were the fish he had living in the tank. Personally, I think it was waaay overstocked! He didn't want to keep the cories or the pleco, so I have them.

I have 1 angelfish, 2 dwarf gourami, 2 cories(will either give them away or get more), and 7 cardinal tetras. I'll be getting a few more angels, but that's it.

The only concern I have about the farlowella is the temperature--I need to read a bit more & find out if they do well at 80F.

A Farlowella should be fine in your tank in that case.

Try to get hold of as these are pretty hardy. Luckily they are the most commonly imported Farlowella. They are shipped from Colombia.

80F is a good temp for them, but they do suffer when temps get above about 86F and oxygen levels get low.
