Hello everyone

Could the experts out there please check this pick out and identify the Lnumber of these Hypancistrus. If possible could u sex them and explain to me the exact differances as i am not certain how to sex. I have done a lot of reading but i only seem to be getting confused.

Please correct me if I am wrong but from what i have read both sexes can have whiskers. It is only when they are ready to mate that the odontodes start to really become more pronounced in the dominant male. The girth behind the pectoral fins is wider than the male but is much more pronounced when the female is gravid.

Quite likely:

The larger (right) of the two is probably a male, but it's always harder to tell if a smaller fish is a female or subdominant male - subdominant males have less odontal growth. A good diet will most likely make a female gravid, and thus should be easy to tell.
