My ancistrus just spawned and I was wondering if the 5 ramshorm snails that are hanging out inside the spawning cave will harm the eggs.

Thanks.

Hello,

I can't give an example from experience, but early experiences give a very prompt reason to keep snails out of spawning tanks. I've yet to see a species that will not take advantage of fresh caviar.

Thanks Larry,

Soon after I posted this the male had forced most of the snails out of his cave(which I removed).

I specifically added a MTS snail to the breeder box with the L184 eggs in it to help keep fungus down. He definitely ate the shells as they hatched, and may have even aided with hatching as they were right at that point, but I have had 20 happily wriggling fry in the box with him for a week now. Mind you, I didn't add the snail until the eggs were already almost hatching by themselves.

I have never seen any ramshorn, Physa, or trumpet snails bother eggs that were being guarded by the male pleco.
I have lost Corydoras eggs to snail predation.
