Hello everyone. I'm new to cat's (besides pleco's).
While picking up fish for my girlfriends 38gal I saw some Banjo's and just had to have a couple so I got 3.
Their names are; Steve, Roy and Bubbles.
They are Aspredinidae Bunocephalus Coracoideus (or possibly Amazonicus)I'll have to wait and see if they get big enough to be Bunocephalus to know for sure.

I can't wait to get my 50gal setup to suit them and get them moved over.

I'm not sure what I'm going to put in the 50 with them to shut up the "why is your tank empty" visitors. Any suggestions?

Welcome to Planet Catfish, Brian! :D I have my Bunocephalus coracoideus (2 of them) in a 15 gallon tank. I put up with the "well, were are they?" all the time. Take heart, though. They do come out to play once comfy.

At first I thought she was sitting on him. It turns out, any time he sees her, he scurries and hides under her. I'm clueless, but it's fun to watch.

They shed about once every 4-6 weeks. Their eyes can take on a milky look and they sort of loose their skin all at once.

I hope you have as much fun watching your Banjos as I have watching mine!

Welcome fellow Banjo Cat keeper,

I have four (somehow over the past yearI misplaced two.) They have been a favorite from my beginnings as an aquarist and count them as my first truly oddball fish going back over four decades. I like them now as much as I did in the first. What odder fish can one find that is so easy to keep at such an affordable price?

Now, if we could just find what it takes to breed them. It can't just be food because I have seen them get incredibly full and they will eat everything remotely resembling food. They will consume blackworms until they literally come out their gills.

Thanks everyone.

Here's the update:
Steve passed away  No idea why.

Roy & Bubbles are doing well. It appears that Bubbles is female (much larger stomach).
