Thanks, but we have a large 370g wide (40") aquarium.

I have Platydoras - 20 cm, less than a foot, in my 4 meter (little over 13 feet) tank.

I think thay should have more space

So that would take fish up to at the most 20" then. A 3 foot fish will just barely have room to fit along the short side of the tank, right? [Yes, don't tell me that fish "bend" and such - it's just not fair that they only have two directions where they have a decent amount of space behind and in front, ok?]

You can at least give me info on 2 foot range, if you think its too small for 3 foot.

You can start by using as a starting place. (Or any other sp you know that is in the range you want)

You can then look at other species sizes by clicking "near, nearer, or same"

I'm not actually trying to start an argument - I can do that "much better" with other means. I'm trying to give you useful advice. I suppose if someone wanted Great Dane dog in a small bedsit on the 6th floor, you wouldn't suggest to them that it may not be the most suitable living quarters for such a big dog, and maybe they should choose one more suited to their living space? Big (cat)fish need big spaces, and although a 370 gallon tank is a big tank by most standards, a 2-3 ft species will require (much) more than that.

Aside from the suggestion Dave made, you can find fish of whatever size range you fancy with the Cat-eLog Advanced search

Just enter the min/max size you want, and it will list all species (up to 100 species) of the size you choose. You can also limit the search by family, genus within a family, river and temperature [give as "small" range of temp as possible, as bigger range indicates more variation - if you have an outdoor pond that's the right thing to do].

Good advice Mats. - Fishcube, you will get a friendlier reception at http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/ if your keeping larger (cat)fish. Less experienced aquarists overall but there are some fanatical fishkeepers and great ideas there too.

In my eyes, the reception is not that important, a 3 feet fish should not be put in a 4 feet (side wall) tank, period. If people on other forums think differently, I can't help it, but I won't change my opinion
