I'm setting up my tank today (yippee) and I can't seem to get the bench it's going to be on top of completely plane. It seems to be a couple of mm off. How much should I worry about it? It's a 40 gallon tank btw.

Use a 1" thick layer of Polystyrine or felt ,to make up the gap if thats what you mean by plane.
But if its overhanging by a few mm then dont worry.

By plane I mean that the bench seems slightly tilted. It's a juwel tank with matching bench so sizewise it's a perfect match.

Well all my tanks are a few mm out in that way .

A deviation of more than 0.5 cm on a smallish tank (<1 m) may be a source of concern, but a few mm across a long tank is not something to worry about. The earth is round, after all. Moreover, the stand may level off once you have a tank filled with water on it.

Juwel tanks and stands/cabinets are designed so you do not need anything on the base on the tank.

If your stand is 'bowed' or uneven i would suggest you take it back to the outlet you bought it from as this could be caused by water ingress into the chipboard.

I am almost certain that if you put a layer between the tank and stand and anything breaks/leaks your warranty is invalid! Should state this in the literature you recieved with the tank.

Good luck with these excellent tanks but depending what size tank and stocking levels/types you may require additional filtration. I run a Rio 180 with Plecos in and use an external filter to backup the Juwel internal.

It's a trigon 190 and I checked the bench and tank and they're plane. I can only speculate that the floor has a slight slope but I guess that's allright as long as the tank and bench are as they should be. I was planning on a fairly wellstocked tank with 3 or 4 spotted raphaels, a couple of bristlenoses, and a school of bandit cories. Also maybe 2 or 3 angelfish. If there's room I was thinking about a striped raphael as well but I guess that that would push the limits somewhat.
