New member with a new Catfish!

Hey guys! I have been a lurker on and off here for years and now I finally have a good reason to speak up.

A frend of mine sent me a load of mbuna that arrived yesterday with this guy in there. I reckon he is nearly 5 inches. Now I am not completely lazy. I looked though the ID pages and found 3 that I think he could be. He fits the adult size for each of them, so I am hoping to strike lucky here.

Welcome to the forum almo.


Your fish is definitely a , but they are tricky to pin down to species level.

My best guess is as this species seems to be imported, and is a good visual match.

I don't think it's a punctatus. I can't get an exact count, but the picture of the punctatus seems to have more dorsal rays than the pics on this thread.

Not for Hypostomus punctatus - I think you're confusing it with . There are very few Loricaridae that doesnt have 1+7 (hard + soft) dorsal rays.
