Compare:

Can these fish be distinguished from each other in a side-by-side "taste-test?"

In other words: Can I be sure of which I own by looking at them?

Yes, the L264 is grey and the L263 is light brown...quite easy to see the different if you look at them side by side.

Thanks Janne...
Do they both retain the same base body color throughout their lives?

I ask because in the last 2 months one of my L264 (I have 8 and they all looked identical} has lost its white tail tips, developed odontal growth on his back half and turn a dirty yellow brown. As far as body color goes; It looks completely different than the others now.

Any ideas?

Yes they remain the same base colour, but small species of L263 can look very similar to L264 and be more greyish as body colour. L264 lose their white tips with age and size and that is normal but they remain grey...all I have had anyway.
