Bringing the rest up to speed

Post by Silurus »

Now that the data entry is proceeding at a good clip (at least for me), are there any plans to bring prior entries up to standards with regards to type localities and etymologies?
I'm volunteering to do this.

A grand idea, but how we do this is the key. I can provide a web page list of all species without these data items, or a list with name, type locality and etymology info.

I think also the first stage should be getting all the generic information in first? Once that's in, we can all forget about it and get on with the species at whatever level.

Is this offer still on the table or have I missed the boat? If so then I think we should first attempt to get all Genera first. Family by family.

I'm still game. Best thing to do would be to email me a list, and I will get working on it when I can afford the time.

Good. Thanks. Can I email you data when I get them done? I'll probably do several genera at a time to avoid sending you tons of email.

What ever is easiest. Would suggest a family by family approach, but up to you. Not all families same size. Perhaps the Pimelodidae might the most fun! Would be easiest also if you mail them to submissions@planetcatfish.com.

Jools,

I am losing track of the etymologies I submitted. I have Claroteidae and Doradidae here in the wings, but what else is still missing?
I know the Loricariidae and the Pimelodidae are still out. Anything else?

I am about to split Pimelodidae into the 3 families, so this list will be out of date in about 2 hours!
