hello catfish keepers :D :D :D

I have a large tank with limas discus and plecs and would like to add 3 Dianema urostriatum the flagtail porthole cat. obversly the limas would be the main risk but would they eat a flagtail if it was full size. the limas are 20cm and i keep a peppermint pleco of 7cm and have had no probs. could go for a smaller pims like a pictus but am worried that they might be to greedy with food on the botom preventing my peppermint and goldie plec from getting enough food, is this true of all pimolodus.i had a problem with my limas being greedy also recently but its seems to have calmed down. the flag tail is a good shape for the lima to eat but with it being armoured could it put them off.

thanks for any help

ben :D

I wouldn't do it. Not only is there the risk of the limas eating the flagtails, which will probably cause them to suffocate (= 2 victims), but even if that doesn't happen the flagtails will not be very at ease, thus easily scared and panicking. This may affect your discus as well and may cause a situation you certainly wouldn't want.

I agree with Marc van Arc; Dianema u. can get really jumpy if they are spooked. And they can fly like rockets around a tank, maybe bash into the glass, maybe into another fish. I dont think they would make a good addition to your 'relatively' calm setup IMHO.
