I bought this pleco, but the shop owner couldn't give me much info on it. He said it was a Hypancistrus and he thinks it might be a King tiger pleco. The pleco seems to be a carnivore as he ignores tablet food but gladly accepts blood worms. He is +- 10cm and seems to be peaceful.

How do you sex this species? Can you tell from my picture if it is a male or female?

The mature & dominant males are pretty easy to determine, as they get "hairy" on the back end of the body (in fact most of the body). However, it's often hard to tell a female from a immature or subdominant male. There's a thread somewhere about sexing by venting (i.e. looking at the external part of the sexual organs of the fish), try a forum search. But unless you have more than one to compare, that's probably not entirely useful either.
