New descriptions of catfishes- how to find them?

Post by Mika »

Thanks to Silurus who is sharing the information of new releases of new descripted catfishes. These seem to appear in various publications. As an average hobbyist and outside of academic world it is hard to find these new releases. University library must be the best place to find them? Which are the best publications that holds usually these new descritions? I know some of these appeares in aquarium magazines. I would be easier if they were released only in one magazine.

It's usually difficult if you're outside of academia to track new scientific papers on catfishes. One of the best ways is to use a database such as Web of Science or Zoololgical Records, but these are very expensive to subscribe to and are usually only available to institutions.
A good place to look would be ichthyological journals such as Ichthyological Exploratin of Freshwaters or Copeia. But then it's a hit-and-miss thing, since there isn't always a catfish paper in each issue.
