I looked at the pics for quite a while and cannot decide if it is Scorpiodoras or Amblydoras.

I have amblydoris hancockii and the dorsal fin looks different.
Of course, if I have misidentified my fish, please let me know!

Must be Scorpiodoras if yours is amblydoris,your catfish was clearly different

Astrodoras asterifrons comes from the Rio Negro and looks *similar*
Scorpiodoras heckelii is the most likely candidate I saw for both region and appearance
and the photo here on PlanetCatfish of
Hypodoras forficulatus appeared to be a dead, dried up specimen and could have looked quite a bit different when it was hydrated....
with these 3 suggestions, I think you'll find your answer since you saw your fish close up.
Heckelii is the one I would put my money on.

It cannot be Astrodoras or Hypodoras, since the laterodorsal surfaces of the body does not bear thorny scutes. Besides, the fish is much too big to be an Astrodoras.
