Chinese Red Tail Cat???

Chinese Red Tail Cat is what the manager at a local fish store sold this little guy to me as? I had never heard of one and it was the only fish in the tank and I knew it wasn't a leporinus....

He's about 3" long with long barbels that are white. He swims rather gracefully for a small catfish. He's dark brown with a whitish belly. Here's some shots of him in my 240 nursery tank:

Thanks for any help you can offer. I did do a search and didn't come up with anything concrete so I figured I'd leave it up to the pros!!

There's probably a reason for that.

Yeah our LFS in Pretoria has about 20 of them as well as 15ish albino ones. I was wondering what it was, now I know...

Since it doesn't have a red tail, and its body is dark, I would guess Hemibagrus wyckii. In any case, it is NOT a friendly, peaceful fish! Anything you put in its pond is a meal.

Not all H. wyckioides have red tails, especially when very young.

For the moment he's in a 240 with about 150 2" c.i.c.h.l.i.d.s. and I need to get him out. He's only 3" at the moment and one of his long barbels is missing so he's got to come out soon..... :( Will his barbel grow back?

The barbel will normally grow back.
