My first Corydoras

Post by whitney »

Hi all,

I'm considering adding Cory Cats to my tank and I had some questions.....

I've been told that they're not happy in groups smaller than 6...is this true? If so, do I have room for them in my 30 gallon tank?

Also....can I use different cory species of similar size to make up my school?

Thanks for any thoughts.

Hi,
I think corydoras do alot better in shoals of 6 or more (plus, you'll have greater chance of successfully breeding them too!). I personally tend to stick with the same corydoras species to make up the group. And yes, I think 30g tank is big enough in my opinion. However, it also depends on what kind of other fish you have in your current tank. hope this helps.

I agree with Noesis. The preferred way is to have at least 6 of the same kind. If you can't find six of the same kind at one shop, you could buy some and get the rest later - just make sure they are the same, as there are some corys that are surprisingly and confusingly similar.

I also agree with what Mats and Noesis have said. It's also important to know what water temperature, the water chemistry values and the other fish in the tank since this will point you to which Corydora species to look for.:D
Thanks,
Amanda
