Hi guys,

Wondering if you could give me a suggestion or two! I am going to set-up a couple of tanks to breed my catties. Each tank will only have one species. I am contemplating not using u/g filters in these tanks as in my other tanks. There will be some gravel but not much and no plants. Items that will go in the tanks are caves and some driftwood. The tank will be about 220 liters and will probably be using a cannister filter to run it. So, should i or not use u/g filters?

What is your reasoning for not using undergravel filters? They provide both mechanical and biological filtration. I've never tried to breed my fish, when they do breed it is purely on their own.

I already took my undergravel filter out of my tank. Its not really worth the trouble.

I honestly wouldn't bother. Too much of a pain, and I find it doesn't do the job I want it to. Rock-Vac all the way for me

Firstly, thanks bigblue n ben for your imputs, much appreciated.

And Vik, reason with not wanting to use UG anymore is i often wonder how these little airstones can do the job in such a tank. If powerheads were used i understand as they probably have more powerflow. Moreover, i'll be using a cannister filter in there and i'll make sure i do the gravel vacumn as well. I'll see how i go.
