Post by apistodave »

Some of yu guys know me as an apisto nut--well, I like catfish too! I dont know them as well however. I have been working on a contact to get fish from Brazil, all the stuff we have been locked out of, and I think I have succeeded. Now, I know which apistos to get but not which catfish-could you folks help me out here and send me some wants??

Hi Dave,
That was indeed a bad break about the Zebras. I know that some Corydoras weitzmanni would find a lot of takers, myself included. There is some serious profiteering going on and I suspect that there are more tank raised fish from the German and Eastern European breeders available, many of which are already involved in the mass production of so many of the Apistogrammas. Regardless of the sources, any increase in supply of C. weitzmani will be welcomed.

Hey Larry --the fish you are talking about come from the Czech Republic. The vast majority of German fish go to Japan because they will pay better prices. The Czechs have started to market here because the Germans, (and other Europeans) will not buy their fish any more because of the lower quality.

I concur that the Czech Apistos aren't of very good quality. Often many appear to be burnt out breeding stock and don't breed and die within a few months.
I'd rather get rag tag young wild ones to the above, once they're nursed back to good health, they may live for years.
