I need some help identifing this corydoras. I have been told they were C. aeneus gold shoulder (gold stripe) and wanted to see what everyone else thought. The spot on the head is orange and not gold. I recently got some gold shoulders and they dont look like this cory. I got this cory out of a tank of Brochis Splendons and found 3 smaller ones like it in a tank full of bronze C. aeneus. Anyone have any ideas?

By regular, I guess you are saying the bronze C. aeneus? Im pretty sure its not a bronze. I know its a "strain", Im just trying to figure out which one.

If they are "regular" C. aeneus, then why is there an orange spot on the head and no green color? This cory is mostly gray with a little green over the gills. I have bronze C. aeneus that look totally different. Maybe its a regional varation?

That cory looks just like one I've been trying to find for a long time now.

Several years ago one of the local chain stores, Petland Discounts, sold them under the common name of "Golden Ears." They carried them for quite a few months with new shipments coming in regularly. Then they stopped and have never had them again. I understand that this chain imports many of their fish.

The fish I am seeking looks just like a bronze C. aeneus, but has a short, brightly colored, line where its ears would be, like in your picture. This line did not extend backward the way it does in the laser corys or Peru Gold Shoulders. I don't remember there being any other unusual coloration on the fins or elsewhere on the fish. The price was no higher than normal for their C. aeneus.

When I saw them each fish in the batch was identical, and each batch was the same. They seemed to be more like a distinct variation than like a few fish having imperfect laser stripes.

Since that time I've heard about other people finding them in small numbers but have never been able to get them myself.
