This is my large tank, which stands in our living. It measures 200x60x60 cms (720 litres). I daren't call it a showtank, because there's hardly anything to be seen during the day. However, this tank is home to 34 fishes, of which 13 are characins and 2 are cyprinids. The rest are catfishes, mainly Auchenipteridae. I use two filters: one Eheim Pro 2228 and one Eheim Pro2 2028. The tank is crammed with wood and as you can see the giant Vallis are doing pretty well. The front window is a little scratchy on the right hand side, which shows even more when only the GroLux lights are on, which is the case on the pictures.

I'm glad I could help. The benefit has all been to me, just to see this beautiful tank! You obviously take very good care of it, and IMO it's definitely a showtank.

In photo 2, there's something at the front glass that is gone from sight in photo 3. Is that a twig, or a twig catfish? Do you have soft water? Do you add any supplements for the Vals, to harden the water?

That's a . It can be seen in all pictures btw. The (vague) characins are my Exodon paradoxus.

Yes, but I can't give you a DH rating because I simply don't know. PH is 6,4 for what it's worth.

No, these things keep on growing. As a matter of fact I cut them yesterday because otherwise the pictures would have been too dark and I didn't want to use the flash.

Gh or DH in Eindhoven is about 6-7; quite soft.
I used to live and keep fish there quite some time ago.

perfect water if you like riverines; there's a shopkeeper (if he's still on it) that used to breed Discus on tapwater in Eindhoven wich is very well possible.

my current hometown has hard, alcalic water; hence me keeping Tanganyikan fish. it's a lot easier to adapt the taste in fish to the tapwater available than it is to adapt the tapwater to the fish you keep.

Eindhoven is really perfect if your taste runs into fish from the Amazon Basin.

I checked the site of Brabant Water Co.: DH 6,4 for Eindhoven.

Very beautifull tank and definetely a showtank not only for its size but also for its aquascape and catfishes.A showtank is no one kind,it is made to show something at its best.So this tank is a showtank for Auchenipterids

Here are some very recent (yesterday) pictures of the large tank. As I had to get the out, resulting in a complete mess, I thought it would be nice to get some Vals out as well as "tons" of duckweed. I'm quite happy with the result.






And this still has to be put in, unequally devided between 3 tanks.

Lovely showpiece, Marc! The wood arrangement is spectacular. So, I'm not the only one who has a hard time getting a fish out of a large tank?

I spent about an hour getting a Ancistrus sp(3) out of my 400L tank... That included two builders buckets (around 4g) full of rocks, crockery and bits of wood - of course, I could have cought most of the tank's inhabitants in that time if I wasn't after that particular fish...

Beautiful tank Marc and i think it will be even better when you put those pieces of wood left

Catching catfish in a tank full of decorations is really a nightmare,you have to remove everything.When i wanted to catch two Baryancistrus from my 200l tank i had to remove even the underwater spraybars as they were hidding under them when nothing else was left in the tank.

I wish plants would grow in my tanks!!!!
I bet the catfish love it in there.
