iv got a group of 5 zebra pleco's and they cost me an arm and a leg! but i was curious whats the most anyones ever paid for a cory? the reason i ask is im thinking about setting up a new tank and giving breeding corydoras a go, iv found a group of 6 weitzmani's for £20 per fish and i was thinking about buying them but it seems quite pricey, i know they are quite rare and they are a beautiful little fish so im very tempted but i was wondering if i should get any other type of cory for a similar price or something even rarer for a little bit more?

any ideas?

You could get loads of Corys for much less. Why do they need to be expensive?

because i want something a bit special, i can get all the common types of cory's at various shops for £2 here and there but i want to try and breed something a little bit rare and the ones that are rare also cost the most unfortunatley. any suggestions?

As Marc states, you can get many other Corys for less money. Are they going to be as pretty? Depends, eye of the beholder and such?
Are they going to be as rare? Probably not. Rare cory's are expensive - but not all expensive cory's are rare...

There's probably few Corys that have the combination of prettiness and rarity.

This is the same question you'd ask yourself if you find that someone is selling a rare and pretty veteran car for a price that you can just about afford.

I like , which you can easily find juveniles of for around half the price of C. weitzmanni, or less, depending on size and which shop you go to. But they aren't exactly rare - just not one of the three most common species.

If you actually want a rare and pretty fish, I don't think it's a crazy price. But if you just want a group of pretty fish, there are others that are just as pretty for less money [so you can either buy more of them, or get something else as well for the money left over].

Obviously you can afford the C. weitzmani so I would ask why not? I agree that they are among the most attractive Corys. Just go for it and I wish you success.

for some reason i seem to of offended marc, i didnt mean too. i just want to do some research first before i buy. any other suggestions?

Actually at £20 each it's not that expensive, there are quite a number of species in that price bracket, but expensive Cory adults do not necessarily mean that the return you get for their youngsters will be comparable.

thanks ian. dont get me wrong im not trying to breed these for profit or anything. i want to do it for myself and the enjoyment and challenge of getting them to spawn.

what others are in that price bracket and equally if not more rare? or nicley marked?

Not at all. I have nothing against people who are searching for the uncommon.

I paid about 80 bucks plus shipping for a group of five weitzmanis. Not a bad deal, but I'd say that was about the most I paid for a cory.

I have a group of weitzmanis, wich I paid the equivalent of 20£ for each fish. This is the limit for me...normally I don't go higher than 10£ per fish, as I usually get them through a German wholesaler and I usually have to order 10 fish or more of the same species to get them.

If I find a rare species in a shop and are able to identify males and females, I'll buy at a higher price if I can get a group of 5 or 6 fish.

if they are in good health. i would buy them for £20 just try and get a good mix of the sexes.
