Hi everyone

I have a L273 Titanic Pleco that is very redish orange in color and then I have just found one that is labeled L273 and it is yellow (and black). My question is, are the variations in color just standard for this particular fish? Is there such thing as L273a or something that way? The colors are different but the fish look the same. The yellow L273 is not mine so I cannot get a photo so easily to show you what I mean. Anyone out there have these fish? I have had my "red" titanic for over a year and I do not see them for sale very often, actually I have only ever seen these two and they were very differently colored. Does anyone know or have them?

I have looked at Japanese web in the past, divides into four kind of colors (red, is green, yellow?) A I forget the correct content and the source.

If I discovered once more that Japanese web, I can provide.

Now Taiwan not so classifies L273.

I wonder if the coloration has to do with stressful factors or gravel type? The fish seem identical in body characteristics (as far as my novice eyes see). The yellow/gold Titanic is in a tank with lighter substrate. Hmmm, something to wonder about I guess.

Color in fishes is often related to one of several things:
Substrate
Stress
Breeding condition
Diet.

I didn't even think about diet, thank you! If I were to put the yellow/gold colored Titanic in my tank, it would probably get darker because my tank substrate is darker and perhaps turn red because of the diet I provide my fish. It would be interesting if it stayed yellow. I don't have the space for two full grown Titanics or I would give it a try!

The fish would only turn redder if you fed it carotenoid-rich foods (like carrots). Some of the commercial fish foods (both prepared and frozen) are enhanced with carotenoids.

You may use "Tetra Bits" perhaps "Jbl Bits".

All has adds color (is red) the effect.

To the benthic fish is an attachment choice.
